The nuts and bolts of the work we do here is to build and support the impact community and to change the way society accounts for value. We advocate for social value (i.e. changes to people’s outcomes, wellbeing, and environmental changes) to be included alongside financial accounting in decision-making processes.
In order for this to happen, we have to have a way to understand, calculate, and communicate the social value of any particular activity or project. This is where Social Return on Investment comes in, providing a methodology to generate financial proxies for social outcomes as valued by the stakeholders experiencing the change. This methodology is relatively new, and represents a valuable tool to support decision making by providing a more complete picture of the value produced by an activity, including its financial gain (or loss) and the social value it creates (or destroys). The methodology is accredited and regulated by Social Value International.
